My Run For Research!

HELLO!!

As most of you know, I started running just one year ago, and I am slowly becoming a veteran.  The sounds and scenes along the Chicago lakefront path are becoming VERY familiar and predictable:  "BIKE UP", "PUDDLE", "HOLE", "WATER STOP HERE".  And, the best part is that running has connected me with many new, wonderful people.

That all started with the Nike Northside | Southside Challenge leading up to the infamous Chicago Marathon of 2007, where I was "el capitan" of the Southside team.  This newfound friendship with everyone I have met is absolutely priceless, and it speaks volumes about the self motivation and awesome spirit that each of you exudes—I just happen to reap some of the benefits!  I want to thank you for that motivation as well as all my supporters (cyclers, walkers, swimmers, triathletes, shoppers, monkey bar champions, etc.).  Thank you!

Running Beyond Fitness

This year, I am taking my journey a little further as I train for the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 12, 2008.  I have coined this endeavor of mine, Running Beyond Fitness!, as I raise funds in support of the American Liver Foundation, Illinois Chapter.  Why not run to have fun, enjoy the company, and stay healthy, while contributing to a good cause?!?  It seemed like a no-brainer to me, so that's why I am doing it.  Here's a little bit of what I've learned so far:

The American Liver Foundation is the nation's leading nonprofit organization promoting liver health and disease prevention. Although recent strides have been significant and dramatic increases have occurred in understanding the complexities of the liver and liver diseases, there is much more that can be done.

A Challenge to Me, a Challenge to You

Over this past year, I have challenged myself both physically and mentally.   By merely beginning to run, overcoming an injury (thanks, Athletico!), and running the 85 degree 2007 Chicago Marathon, I have overcome many obstacles.  Today, I extend a challenge you as I ask for your help in this new leg of my journey.

My goal is to raise $5,000.  Each dollar you give will directly support research, education, and advocacy for those affected by a liver-related disease.  Visit my fundraising site at http://www.active.com/donate/run2008/KenChinUSA to make a tax-deductible donation online and monitor our progress towards this goal.  Also, check out my blog (http://KenChinUSA.blogspot.com) to keep tabs on my training.

If you have already contributed, please accept my heartfelt thanks.  If you would like to support the Run for Research Team, please send in any amount you feel appropriate.  All donations are greatly appreciated by me and by millions of individuals and families whose lives have been affected by a liver-related disease.

I am confident that with your support, we will achieve our Team fundraising goal of $225,000. I invite you to become part of the Team and make this endeavor, ours.

Once again, thank you for your generosity and ongoing support!

Sincerely

Ken Chin
